Author: Andrew E. Jackson

Sue Jones sat on a stack of old tires in her garage while Jim Smith looks at her hand. Jim laughs and says, "Looks like you are not bird food today! They did a good first aid job. Your hand will heal up soon. It is really nothing."

Sue replied, "Then why do I feel I feel pain." Why do I feel so bad inside? It should have stopped hurting by now! I hate that bird for biting me!"

"Hate! That's strong word for just a starch. Sorry your starch is still hurting. Let me kiss it and blessing it and make it better." replies Jim as he kisses her hand near the small starch. "Now how does it feel?"

Sue smiling says, "Now it does not hurt so much, but I feel bad inside." I trained to be a zoo keeper because I love animals and now I am hating them more and more each day."

"Sorry!" replies Jim as he puts his arm over her shoulders. "Why are you hating them more and more."

"It is the birds", replied Sue "I use to love seeing them fly. Now ever time they fly I believe they are truing to get away and I hate them for it."

"Jim trying not to laugh says, "Let me see if I got this straight, you hate the birds for wanting to fly. I thought they were made to fly."

It is my job!", angrily replies Sue. "They want to escape their closed in area and just fly wild. That is how my hand got hurt. I tried to stop them and one of their claws got me?"

"Didn't you tell me when we first meet that you enjoy seeing those birds flying free in the air.", Jim said. "You went on for hours about how beautiful and free they looked painting great paintings in the sky as they fly. Now that you finished your long studies and got your job in that zoo why do you hate the artist that you use to like."

"You don't understand!", Sue sadly replied. "It tares me up inside to see them pined in the small areas and not able to fly wild drawing patterns in the sky. They are artist and I am stealing their brushes." She cries.

Jim holds her head against his shoulder and lets her cry, saying, "Go ahead and cry! Let it all out. Cry till you can fly with the eagles."

Sue jerks her head from his shoulder and angrily says, "How can I fly with the eagles when it is my job to keep them in cages for people to admire them." Still crying she says. "At first I was happy to see the smiles on the faces of people who came to see them at the zoo. But now I feel the birds and I want to fly but that we are trapped in the zoo."

Jim picks up a guitar off the garage wall, holding the pick in front of Sue's eyes, then he plays a beautiful song of peace. He then says, "Now it is your turn to pick. Sue gabbing the guitar pick out of Jim's hand, says, Listen to this."

Jim interrupts her says, "Not that kind of song I want to hear. You have to pick with your heart light what is best for you."

"What do you mean?" asked Sue. What can I pick?

Jim turning around and looking right into the eyes of Sue and talking to her soul says, "Sue! Sue! You are beautiful, smart, and talented with animals. You can do anything you want to do. Let your heart light guide you. You are not an animal trapped in that zoo. You are free to fly and if you do not fly high in the sky with the eagles your pain inside could kill you. So you are free to decide what to do with your life. You can stay at the zoo, help the animals who will stay there all their lives to live better and longer. Maybe that way you can also regain your joy of seeing the crowds smiling again at the animals. Or you can look else where for a job working at a wildlife park studding, photographing, looking after these birds like the one who clawed you today. That way you can watch them fly and paint their masterpieces in the sky and bless the earth.

A big smile spread over Sue's face. Jim could see in her eyes that she got back her wings and now could fly again.
