Rate This Contest Entry: Contest: June 30th, 2005 Author: Britne R Gobert the light was coming towards us, faster and faster. then it hit. i could feel the car pushing the door, the sharp metal scratching my skin. the scream of my flesh ripping could have scared away the devil. the noise of the car was almost intolerable, it pierced my ears and shattered the windows. then all was gone. now it's silenced. no more birds, car horns, voices. it's too quiet. the silence is eating me alive. a black hole taking anyone who gets close enough to see the entirety of it's emptiness, sucking the soul of it's prey and trapping it in eternal darkness. i keep trying to fill up the space where the sound used to be, but i can't find a way to break the toatl silence. i've tried singing songs, and that seems to work!--until the song's over. i've tried random thoughts, but that's just too weird. the other day i imagined my brother's name was bozo. after that i quit letting my mind wander. so then i decided to make up stories. and so far it's been working great. i use the kids in my class and the personalities i picture them having. the cockiness of there voice, their hand expressions. it's like a movie constantly playing, a soap opera even. sometimes i even make them into comic strips, left, right, down, over. my favorite character so far is this boy. his name is nathan, he's in my science class. he's really cute and his eyes are amazing. when i look at him i'm swimming, swimming in clear water, his eyes of the deepest blue. i'm really happy i'm here. well not here, here but here as in alive. i would rather be back home in las vegas. i know what you're thinking, why would i, riley sharpe, move from las vegas, nevada to a small town like this? well it's along story. i won't go into details. on the other hand my boyfriend is the sweetest! when i moved here he came with me and helped me move. he bought me a huge teddy bear to put in my new room, and he got me one dozen roses. last year, he entered me in the miss nevada pagent and helped me win runner up. ever since we've been that much closer. my favorite subject in school just happens to be english. my teacher miss cooke, is an exciting, energeic teacher. i think she's why i like english so much. it could also be because when i write in her class i don't yelled at, i get encouraged. she's says my writing has improved a lot, except not in so many words. oh my gosh! the funniest thing happened in my algebra class the other day. brooke, this girl that sits in front of me, stood up in the middle of class and started goin off on the teacher! i din't really get much but i got enough to understand that the teacher moved her seat away from her boyfriend's seat away from her! tha pretty much covered all i need to know. however, it made for a really interesting story. the story was creative, in that realistic, fairytale kind of way, believe it or not! fairytales are nice but the reality of my first kiss was with a boy i grew up with. kyle young, we've been in the same school since grade four. we had been "dating" for a couple of months, when we got invited to a "couples" only party. we decided to play a game. the name was seven minutes in heaven. the party was almost over and it was our turn to go. i didn't know my that my brother, "bret," was coming to pick me up early. kyle kissed me just as bret opened up the closet door. he just said, "time to go," and shut the door. after that bret was the coolest brother in las vegas. i can't believe he still hasn't told my mom about it. of course, i was only ten, he probably figured i didn't know what i was doing. but five years! bret usuall can't keep his mouth shut for five seconds. he definatley earned props on that one. he let me get away with other things after that. like the night before it happened, he watched me sneak out and even shut my bedroom window. luke, his brother, and i went to this party. it was a phrat party for the college luke's brother, dylan, goes to. we knew we were too young but we just couldn't help it. we just kept having one drink after another and packs of cigarettes at a time. the clock struck midnight and we were having a blast! i never wanted to go home. but then bret called to give me a heads up that mom and dad were on there way home from new york. i knew i had to go, do luke and dylan took me home. i drove with dylan and luke was in the car behind us. we had, had such a great time and i was on the phone with my, 13 year old sister, hayley, telling her all about it. then there was a light, it was coming at the side of the car. it burned into my memory, causing a permanent picture. i'm thinking of it constantly. i felt the cold metal of the passenger door as it tore into my flesh. then the blood came running through my veins, like an army of ants searching for food. sliding down the smoothness of my arms and legs. the screeching of the tires and the smell of burning rubber were enough to kill. finally everything was gone. my eyes opened slightly and i could see my mom and hayley. sitting in the corner of the room was luke. finally sitting in a chair and lying across the bed was bret. "bret," i mouthed the words but didn't hear anything. i must have made some sort of noise because bret looked up. i could see his face light up with hope. he turned to everyone and then everyone looked at me. everyone's mouths were moving but i wasn't able to tell what. there was something covering part of my face and my right ear but when i tried lifting my arm, it was too heavy, weighed down by a bright green cast(my favorite color). i tried saying, "i can't hear you." i don't think they understoon but they started crying just the same. so i moved here with bret. he takes really good care of me and says i go to the best school for people like me. hayley and i e-mail each other back and forth. along with all my other friends back home. since i haven't relly figured out how to "communicate" yet, i haven't made many new friends. but out of all the noises i miss, i just with i could here my own voice again.
