Rate This Contest Entry: Contest: June 30th, 2005 Author: Debora Bogart Allie stood in the school’s hall, listening to the screams and the gunshots. She hadn’t much time, she knew, before everyone died because of her presence, and she pushed her way through the frantic crowd of teenagers. Once she reached the corridor she paused, sickened by the blood-spattered lockers and the bullet-riddled bodies whose faces still held the terror of their last moments. Allie thought to herself, “Home , I have to get home so this killing can end.” She looked around for a clear path to the door. Hurdling over the bodies that lay in her way she made a frantic dash toward the school’s front exit. She knew this day would come but she never expected it to be so violent. It was she they wanted, not these innocent people. They had found her and now she must go to them so this killing could end. “Stop! Stop, please stop!” Allie screamed, as she saw people lying in their own blood on the street. “I’m coming, stop, leave them alone!” she pleaded. But it was too late, the dead lay in a battle field of a one sided war. A river of blood flowed down the street and into her house through the open front door. The house glowed like fire. Along the river stood hairy, ape-like, seven foot soldiers, holding rifles with their large three-fingered hands. As Allie ran down the center of the blood river, the soldiers raised their rifles over their heads with both hands, fell to one knee, and cheered, “Hail to the queen, hail to the queen.” Allie felt sick at the sound of their cheers. When she reached the door she hesitated as she stepped over the threshold, then fell to her knees as her clothes burst into flames and the flesh melted from her body. The transformation had begun. She crawled toward the basement door. Cheers sounded from below, and the stench of burning flesh filled her nostrils. “Hail to the queen!” The cheers burned into her ears, making Allie want to scream. As she reared her body up from the floor and uttered sounds of agony, large pointed teeth pushed their way out of her gums, ivory horns extended from her forehead, her fingers melted together to form three large appendages, and coarse hair rapidly grew from her body, completely covering her now massive figure. The transformation was complete. Allie made her way through the basement to an open pit in the floor. A fiery light emanated from it. Before descending into the burning bowels of the earth, Allie raised her head to the heavens and roared in agony crying out, “God forgive me! Forgive me for leaving the hell in which I belong. All I wanted to do was prove that I could be a good soul. I should have stayed below, and now because of me all of these innocent people have met a fate worse than death itself. They will be dragged below to serve penance for my escape. Oh Lord, please forgive me!” Her cries for forgiveness, Allie knew, were a waste of time. No god in his right mind would ever forgive such a deed as this massacre. The pain of this day will be forever burned into her soul. At the bottom of the pit, Allie stood before a nine foot creature with large ivory horns on his forehead, quite like her own. He laughed viciously and prodded her to stand beside him amongst the creatures of the depths. Behind her the soldiers from above also descended into the pit. As the last one entered, the doorway closed in an earthshaking explosion. The soldiers joined the circle and knelt down as their leader spoke. “Our queen is home, back among us where she belongs. She shall not leave us again, for if she does the wrath that we all witnessed above will repeat itself a thousand fold and cover the entire surface of the earth!” He turned to Allie and spoke directly to her. “Welcome home, my queen! Take your place beside me at my throne.” Raising his gruff voice in anger he cried, “ Fulfill your destiny!” Allie faced this fearless monster with pain in her eyes and listened quietly to what he was saying, as her heart melted within her chest. Knowing that her departure from the earth’s bowels would mean certain death for those above, worse than she had witnessed this day, Allie took her place beside the leader as his queen. She hung her head in shame as the creatures moved in closer to her and roared in celebration, “Our queen is home, hail to the queen, hail Queen Alagor!” Her destiny had been fulfilled.
